Electric cars are increasingly being used and are known as an environmentally friendly solution in various countries, including Indonesia. With advances in technology and increasing awareness of the importance of protecting the environment, electric cars are becoming an attractive option for many people. Apart from reducing greenhouse gas emissions, electric cars also offer better energy efficiency and lower operating costs compared to conventional cars.
Various incentives and policies have been introduced to encourage the use of electric cars in the country. One example is the elimination of Sales Tax on Luxury Goods (PPnBM) for electric vehicles, which aims to make electric cars more affordable for the public. Apart from that, the government is also aggressively developing charging infrastructure which continues to be expanded in various strategic locations such as shopping centers, offices and other public areas. These steps aim to address the main obstacle to electric vehicle adoption, namely the availability of adequate charging infrastructure.
With strong support from the government, it is hoped that the use of electric cars in Indonesia can continue to increase, thereby making a positive contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment.

Electric cars are completely powered by electric batteries and do not require fossil fuels at all. This means electric cars produce no direct emissions when in use, making them a more environmentally friendly option. Meanwhile, hybrid cars combine a petrol engine with an electric motor. Even though they use electric motors for several functions, hybrid cars still rely on fossil fuels to drive their engines.
Because the power source is electric, electric cars do not produce exhaust emissions when used. This makes electric cars a cleaner and environmentally friendly solution, especially in reducing air pollution in cities. On the other hand, even though they produce fewer emissions than conventional cars, hybrid cars still emit emissions because they still depend on the gasoline engine for some driving activities.
Electric cars are more efficient in energy use because there is no energy loss through heat like with internal combustion engines. The electric motor in an electric car is able to convert electrical energy into movement more efficiently than an internal combustion engine. Meanwhile, even though hybrid cars are efficient when using an electric motor for low acceleration or in city traffic, these cars still experience efficiency losses because they still depend on petrol engines which are more wasteful at high speeds.
In terms of operational costs, electric cars have an advantage because the cost of charging electricity is cheaper compared to fossil fuels, especially if you take a more stable electricity price range. Additionally, maintenance costs tend to be lower because electric cars have fewer moving parts and less routine maintenance than conventional engines. On the other hand, although hybrid cars have lower fuel costs than conventional cars, these costs are still higher than electric cars. In addition, because they have two power systems that need to be maintained, hybrid car maintenance costs can be higher than electric cars.
