For many professionals working in Jakarta, mobility is a big challenge they face every day.
In the midst of high traffic density, the odd-even system has become an integral part of the city's transportation arrangements. Let's explore further the rules and schedule for odd-even implementation as well as information regarding the policies and regulations that regulate it.
The odd-even system is a system for controlling the volume of vehicles passing through certain areas and hours. This system applies to four-wheeled motorized vehicles in the capital city of Jakarta during rush hours. This rule is contained in DKI Jakarta Governor Regulation Number 88 of 2019 concerning Amendments to Regulation Number 155 of 2018 concerning Traffic Restrictions using an odd-even system, and in accordance with the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 26 of 2022, Circular Letter (SE) of the Minister of Transportation Number 46 of 2022 , and Governor Regulation (Pergub) Number 88 of 2019.
Ticketing sanctions will also be given to motorized vehicles that violate areas at all odd-even points in the capital city of Jakarta. The vehicle restriction policy aims to reduce the volume of vehicles that can cause congestion and pollution in the capital city.

Regarding the odd-even implementation schedule in Jakarta, it is divided into two sessions, namely morning and afternoon until evening. The first session in the morning starts at 06.00 WIB-10.00 WIB. Meanwhile, the second afternoon session takes place at 16.00 WIB-21.00 WIB. This policy applies Monday to Friday.
Before starting your trip in Jakarta, it is wise to check the odd-even schedule first. By knowing this schedule, you can plan your trip more efficiently. Consider the right time to leave so you can avoid rush hours where the odd-even rule applies. In addition, plan alternative routes that may be faster or avoid roads that are subject to restrictions. With good planning, you can avoid traffic jams and unnecessary stress during your trip.
One of the best ways to avoid the odd-even rule is to use public transportation. TransJakarta buses and trains are great options for mobility in Jakarta. TransJakarta buses have separate lanes from the main roads, so they can pass through areas affected by the odd-even rule without problems. Apart from that, trains are also an efficient choice because they are not affected by the odd-even rule and are often faster than private vehicles during rush hours.
Technology can be a very useful tool to help you overcome odd-even rules. Use navigation apps like Google Maps or Waze to get up-to-date traffic information and find the fastest route to your destination. This application often provides warnings about roads affected by the odd-even rule and provides faster alternative route options. Apart from that, you can also use online transportation services such as Gojek or Grab to order transportation that suits your needs.
Even though the odd-even rule can be an obstacle, sometimes using a private car is still the best choice for your mobility. In this case, utilizing a car rental service can be the right solution. You can rent a car with a number plate that complies with the odd-even rules for that day, or even hire a driver who is familiar with the traffic rules in Jakarta. This way, you can still have a private vehicle for your mobility without having to worry about odd-even rules.
